Join RE Sources and Surfrider for our monthly cleanup at Whatcom Falls Park! From the Silver Beach Road entrance, meet at the trailhead next to the fish hatchery. Trash grabbers, gloves, and bags provided, and bagels provided by Bagelry.
To combat plastic pollution in the Salish Sea, we host beach cleanups — as well as cleanups along rivers and lakes — throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties, providing cleanup equipment and a place to connect with like-minded community members.
Plastic pollution is a concern for water quality and wildlife everywhere, and has even been discovered in drinking water and table salt worldwide. Recent research found that Pacific Ocean juvenile fish have been consuming microplastic particles in their first days of life, with not-yet understood health consequences.

The Koma Kulshan Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society hosts chapter meetings on the third Wednesday of every month between September and May. We are proud to offer these educational seminars free and open to the public. We hope to see you there!
Our guests this month will introduce you to the federally threatened Oregon spotted frog and describe a successful, on-going habitat restoration project at a property owned by the Whatcom Land Trust, which supports a large, at-risk population of this rare species. They will discuss the challenges of removing invasive reed canarygrass, development of new methods, and illustrate the numerous diverse replacement plant species that are now thriving at the site.
Important location info: From the Bakerview/Hannagan intersection, head east on East Bakerview Road. Go down the hill, follow the road around the left-hand corner, and make your first left, going through NSEA’s gate at the entrance of the property. Once through the gate, stay right of the wooden fish sculpture. Follow the driveway in, arcing around to the right, and park near the community building. ***Please do not park in front of the garage door as staff will need access to this area while you are here.***
For more information on this meeting, please visit our website at the link provided.
Ryan Budds of TRIVIA WITH BUDDS will provide the fast paced and interactive platform for an online trivia night akin to Jeopardy!
Register your team (3 people) for $75, or just watch along for free! Teams will compete in four rounds featuring a range of topics, with the winners going home with the traveling “Totten Trophy.” Because the answers are submitted via cell phone, participants can play from anywhere. Last year’s winning team “The Crabpots” had players from Bellingham, Alaska, and Baltimore!
For local residents who would like to meet in person, Aslan Depot will not only be showing the event on a big screen, they will also be donating $1 from each pint sold. We recommend arriving a bit early to find a seat, and order food and drinks before the trivia rounds kicks off. Food from Aslan Brewing can be ordered on your phone, and will be delivered to your table.
Be sure to check out our online silent auction – open April 18 through April 29 – for an assortment of eclectic and wonderful items to bid on.
Since 1983, the Whatcom Literacy Council has helped hundreds of adults in Whatcom County transform their lives by strengthening their literacy skills with free tutoring and small group classes. In this wildcrafting workshop you will learn how to weave a basket using the coil technique and Ponderosa Pine needles.
Baskets are thought to be one of the first art forms of ancient peoples, with basket fragments found in California and the Southwest dating to 9400 years, and coiled baskets from the earliest sites in Egypt dating to 7,000 years. The coil technique requires patience and attention to detail before it becomes a relaxing, repetitive stitching pattern. It is a skill that is more easily learned with a little guidance.
Dabblers, beginners, intermediate, and advanced weavers will enjoy this creative, social gathering.
This course will take place indoors at the Chuckanut Center near Fairhaven in Whatcom County, WA. The Chuckanut Center is heated and has access to facilities including a bathroom, full kitchen, and drinking water.
