Common Threads is a local nonprofit that connects kids to healthy food. Providing gardening and cooking lessons for close to 7,000 students in 21 schools across Whatcom County, Common Threads promotes a seed-to-table approach to food production, good nutrition, and environmental stewardship. Most of Common Threads’ programs take place on public school grounds, during the school day in collaboration with classroom teachers and food service staff. Additionally, Common Threads offers gardening and cooking programs after school and over Spring and Summer breaks. More info at www.commonthreadsfarm.org

Birchwood Garden Club’s 27th Annual Plant Sale will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 9:00 AM until noon at the downtown Bellingham Public Library, 210 Central Avenue, lower level.

We will have a wide variety of shrubs, trees, roses, perennials, annuals, veggie starts, pots, books and and choice selection from our member’s gardens. Proceeds from the sale benefit numerous community organizations including the Whatcom Museum and Bellingham Public Library gardens along with donations of gardening literature for both adults and children at the library. Please come early for best selection!

Bring your broken household items to SkillShare at the Central Library and work with skilled volunteers from NW Free Repairs to learn how to repair them. Volunteers have experience repairing common household items such as toys, small kitchen appliances, electric tools and many other items that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Please note: broken items may not be dropped off to be repaired. Owners must be willing to participate in making the repairs with the assistance of the volunteers. Want to learn how to peacefully co-exist with our wild neighbors through understanding & respect? Join us for an informative series of talks about wildlife native to Whatcom County. Learn how the WHS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center cares for orphaned and injured wildlife in our community – and how you can help! Presented by Alysha Evans, WHS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Manager & Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator.
At this presentation learn how to responsibly attract, humanely feed and protect backyard birds and the effects feeding birds can have on other animal species, wild and domestic.
This 30 minute presentation will be followed by Q&A with our knowledgeable staff.
This event is FREE to attend (RSVP below!). We will have door prizes as well as no-host food and beverages for you to enjoy!
