Enjoy live music from 7 – 10 pm in the greatest outdoor music venue downtown Bellingham has to offer! Tickets are $12 presale, $15 at the door. All ages are welcome.

The Adrian Xavier & Ska Island experience is a reggae/ska/afro-latin fusion sensation, a regional supergroup of players who have been pilgrimaging to Lopez Island over the last two years to craft & develop this extremely special, electrifying & up-lifting show.

Ska Island starts it off with a tribute set to the legendary Skatalites, playing their explosive interpretation of vintage first wave ska & rocksteady. Vocal features from members of the band and special guests punctuate the instrumental set. Seattle’s crown prince of reggae Adrian Xavier joins the band for a tour-de-force journey through his conscious, uplifting original reggae & world fusion music.

NSEA's Native Plant Identification Workshop @ Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association

Do you know which native tree is considered the tree of life? Come to this workshop to find out!

Meet us at NSEA’s campus to discover local plant species and how healthy riparian zones support healthy salmon populations. In this workshop, you will learn about native plants, how to identify them, and why they are important for salmon. Free event – kids and families are welcome! Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to attend. Registration is optional but encouraged to help us plan for the event.

This event will be hosted outside and include walking around NSEA’s campus in areas such as our native plant nursery, gardens, and forest. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate walking shoes.

For 24 summers Robert Sarazin Blake has hosted Happy Hour in the Boundary Bay Beer Garden. Every other week he performs with a revolving band of Bellingham’s finest folk & jazz musicians. In the weeks between, Blake invites a wide variety of local and touring folk musicians to entertain. Each week at 6 pm the beer trivia live game show THE PINT IS RIGHT gives everyone a chance to win a pint of Boundary Bay beer by having, not the most correct answer, but the best!

Emerging from the American string band tradition, Quickdraw String Band plays a repertoire of Old-Time, Early Bluegrass, Country Blues, and Ragtime, including some of their own originals. Experienced and hard-working, they have been performing around the Pacific Northwest off and on for the pasty twenty years. Featuring members Allegra Ziffle, Dave Maguire, Johanna Rochester and Matt Novak, their sound consists of various configurations of mandolin, fiddle, guitar, dobro, bass, banjo, and vocals.

Whatcom Young Professionals is excited to host our annual fundraiser on Thursday, September 5th, from 5:30-8:00pm at Fishermen’s Pavilion. This groovy event will feature food trucks, local beer & cider, a DJ dance party, and Raffles for over $2,500 in gift certificates donated by local businesses, with all proceeds benefiting the Max Higbee Center! Admission includes a drink ticket and access to all the fun; Max Higbee Center members/families attend for free but are encouraged to register in advance online.

Join your community in celebrating healthy water, healthy habitat, and healthy people during the 12th annual Run with the Chums 5K Fun Run! This free event welcomes people of all ages and speeds. The 5K course has beautiful views of Whatcom County shoreline and beaches. Children 10 and under can enjoy the Smolt Sprint obstacle course. This year Run with the Chums will be held on September 14th, as a kick off event for Whatcom Water Week at the BP Highlands. The 5K will start at 10AM, and the Smolt Sprint at 9:45 AM. Established in 2021, North Sound Soul is a 9-piece soul/funk/rock band comprised of savvy veterans of Bellingham’s music scene. The band features a high-energy horn section, and dynamic rhythm section and is fronted by a tag-team duo of powerhouse vocalists. With an ever-expanding catalog, no song or genre is safe from getting the North Sound Soul horn-groove treatment. Their material will take you on a journey from early Motown-era standards by Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Sam & Dave thru 70’s funk cuts by Aretha Franklin, Al Green, and Stevie Wonder, culminating in the classic horn-focused tracks by Chicago and Tower of Power.

Our Hearts Beat as One: Community Honoring & Book Launch @ Sehome High School Theater

This will be a free, family-friendly event to honor the Lummi community members who worked to bring their orca relation out of captivity; to announce the Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut Legacy Scholarship at Northwest Indian College, and to launch the bilingual children’s book that tells the story of the relationship between the Lummi people and the amazing killer whale Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut / Tokitae / Lolita.

“Sa’le Q’ewet Netse-lh / Our Hearts Beat as One,” published by Village Books’ Chuckanut Editions and illustrated by Coast Salish artist Jason LaClair, encourages readers of all ages to protect all our relations, and demonstrates the power of inclusivity and collaboration. Complete with helpful background materials and activities, “Our Hearts” is designed to be part of a school curriculum –as well as a home bookshelf– that aims to include and honor Native stories, values, and perspectives.
Event co-hosts include Children of the Setting Sun Productions; Village Books; North Cascades Institute; and Allied Arts of Whatcom County.
Doors open at 6:30pm. Books, as well as tee shirts and tote bags featuring Jason LaClair’s art, will be available for purchase on-site, and are also now available for pre-order in-person or online at www.villagebooks.com.

Are you ready for the coming mushroom season? Join Outdoor educator, naturalist, and experienced forager, Jazmen Yoder, for this comprehensive one-day workshop to get prepared! We’ll cover essential skills and knowledge to safely and responsibly forage for wild mushrooms in your area.

In this class you will learn:

Mushroom foraging basics: regulations, ethics, safety, and gear
Mushroom identification techniques for common edible and poisonous species
Mushroom ecology – understanding fungal life cycles, seasonality, and habitats
Tips for finding your own reliable mushroom foraging spots
Through lecture, demonstration, and hands-on activities you’ll gain confidence and know-how before you find yourself in the middle of the upcoming foraging season. We’ll also discuss preservation, cooking, and other ways to enjoy your fungal finds.

Whether you’re a beginner or have some foraging experience, this workshop will provide the fundamentals of responsible mushroom foraging to prepare you for a bountiful mushroom season. Join this special event to get ready to hunt those delicious wild fungi!
