Join the orchestra and renowned guest violinist Philippe Quint as we kick off our 49th season with Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, a lush, romantic piece — and widely considered one of the best-known violin concertos.

Edible & Medicinal Mushrooms with Northwest Natura @ Whatcom County

Sign up for one or multiple outings in October to forage for edible and medicinal mushrooms and learn about mushroom ecology and how to find target fungi.

There are 3 dates to choose from. Each course is from 12:00 to 4:30pm and take place in different locations.
To sign up for multiple dates you will need to purchase them individually in separate transactions:

Saturday October 5th
Sunday October 13th
Saturday October 26th
Locations will be in public forested areas around Whatcom County where foraging is legal without a permit. Precise details remain TBD as they are contingent on the fungi, but these trips will be no more than 1 hour outside of Bellingham. I will scout weekly to find the best locations and send you an email with location information 2-4 days before your event(s).

What to bring:

Dress for the weather
Snacks and water
Notepad and pen (optional)
Foraging basket
Hand lens (optional; I have some for sale (5/ea))

Ecosystem Awareness: Wildlife Tracking & Foraging w/ Northwest Natura & Mark Thompson @ Whatcom County

Please join naturalist, Jazmen Yoder (Northwest Natura) and expert wildlife tracker, Mark Thompson for an immersive day of exploration focused on wildlife track and sign in a stunning landscape near the Nooksack River. This hands-on course is designed for nature enthusiasts, aspiring naturalists, and anyone curious about the “big picture” of our local ecosystems. We will look at tracks and signs left by local wildlife, identify the plants they’re foraging, and search for signs of wildlife-fungi foraging. We will also have the opportunity to hunt for edible mushrooms while we’re in the woods. This will be a fun course with tons of educational content!

Fall Naturalist Series: Mycology & Outdoor Skills with Northwest Natura (DAY 3) @ Whatcom County

This series is designed for individuals interested in having fun outdoors learning about PNW mushroom ecology, tree identification, and outdoor skills such as fire-making and foraging.

Each class will incorporate hands-on activities.

Expect some gentle to moderate hiking, and some kneeling or squatting.

Each class will build on the previous one. For more details, keep reading!

Day 3: Mossy Woodlands

Search for the last of the autumnal mushrooms. Test your knowledge with a fun recap of what this series covered.
