Daniel Handler (AKA Lemony Snicket), And Then? And Then? What Else? @ New Prospect Theatre

Daniel Handler (AKA Lemony Snicket), And Then? And Then? What Else? @ New Prospect Theatre

Register today to hear some amazing tunes from Louis Ledford & Norah McLaughlin, and to get your hands on Daniel Handler’s brand new book before its release date!

Part memoir, part inspiration for aspiring writers, And Then? And Then? What Else? traces Daniel Handler’s sometimes challenging and often amusing path toward one of the most spectacularly successful writing careers of the twenty-first century. Declaring his love of strange literature, Baudelaire’s The Flowers of Evil in particular, Handler reflects on the life experiences—some of them deeply personal and revealed for the first time—and the cultural influences that shaped his writing, both under his own name and as Lemony Snicket, the lonely, beleaguered, somehow both cynical and romantic narrator of the beloved thirteen-volume saga of three unlucky orphans that became one of the best-selling series of all time. Inspiring, revelatory, and entertaining, And Then? And Then? What Else? is destined to become a classic of its genre, every bit as influential as Eudora Welty’s One Writer’s Beginnings or Stephen King’s On Writing have been on previous generations.

Daniel Handler is the author of seven novels, including Why We Broke Up, We Are Pirates, All The Dirty Parts and Bottle Grove. His new book on writing And Then? And Then? What Else? is forthcoming from Liverlight/W.W. Norton in 2024. As Lemony Snicket, he is responsible for numerous books for children, including the thirteen-volume A Series of Unfortunate Events, the four-volume All the Wrong Questions, and The Dark, which won the Charlotte Zolotow Award. Mr. Snicket’s first book for readers of all ages, Poison for Breakfast, was published by Liveright/W.W. Norton in 2021.

Handler has received commissions from the San Francisco Symphony, Berkeley Reperatory Theater and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and has collaborated with artist Maira Kalman on a series of books for the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and with musicians Stephin Merritt (of the Magnetic Fields), Benjamin Gibbard (of Death Cab for Cutie), Colin Meloy (of the Decemberists) and Torquil Campbell (of Stars).

His books have sold more than 70 million copies and have been translated into 40 languages, and have been adapted for film, stage and television, including the recent adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events for which he was awarded both the Peabody and the Writers Guild of America awards.

He lives in San Francisco with the illustrator Lisa Brown, to whom he is married and with whom he has collaborated on several books and one son.

Louis Ledford and Norah McLaughlin specialize in harmony singing not unlike the Everly’s, Simon and Garfunkle, or Gram with Emmylou.

The songs are by Ledford, some of his friends as well as choice covers that you or your grandparents have never heard played quite like this before.

Louis Ledford has written, recorded and performed music for decades. The verdant fields of Virginia, the fragrant wards of New Orleans and most recently, the drizzly climes of Bellingham, WA have all been home.

Norah McLaughlin has been performing since she was a Whatcom County Kid in many wonderful bands including Kitty Kitty, Alamo Social Club and Yogoman Burning Band.

Doors open at 6:30.

Free Community Clothing Swap! @ IBC

It’s our fifth annual Free Community Clothing Swap! We will have all sizes, genders, ages, seasons, and styles, including shoes, accessories, and outerwear.
Will be taking place Sat. June 15th, 10am-2pm at 2000 W North St in Bellingham.
Clothes can be brought to exchange, but it’s never required. This is a free clothing event, open to all. Last year we served over 300 Whatcom residents in person, and all leftover items went to local assistance groups to helps others free of charge. We had enough clothing for 3000-4000 individuals and hope to clothe even more of our neighbors this year!
This year we’ll have an expanded activity area for kids, refreshments for attendees, and lots of clothing to share. Hope to see you there!
