Bellingham Beer Week

The third annual Bellingham Beer Week (BBW) will run from Sept. 12 through Sept. 21, 2014, in Bellingham, Wash. Following in the success of last year’s BBW, which saw more than 50 unique events at 20 different venues featuring two dozen breweries, organizers expect this year’s BBW to be even better.

A wide variety of events are being planned for this 10-day celebration of craft beer, including tap takeovers, brewer nights, beer-and-food pairings, beer-themed movies, special beer releases, beer trivia, visits from beer authors and respected brewers, the Barleywood Squares game show, a sour ale fest and much more.

This year’s main event will be the Bellingham Oktoberfest at Depot Market Square, which will benefit the Volunteer Center of Whatcom County. This event will feature beer from 20 to 30 breweries – including many German-style beers – as well as music and food.

BBW also will coincide with other beer-related events, including the Bite of Bellingham, Chuckanut Century, Sustainable Connections’ Eat Local Month, the Bellingham Traverse and the 5Point Film Festival.

Of course, beer will be the highlight. Roughly a dozen limited-release beers will be brewed by local and regional breweries just for BBW, including a special BBW beer made by Fremont Brewing Co. of Seattle, which will be packaged in cans and distributed statewide. There will also be a collaboration beer made by Whatcom County’s brewers, which will be available on draft and in 16-ounce cans.
