Kerry Mitchell & Motako Lewis – The Adventures of Wonky Willy @ Village Books and Paper Dreams in Fairhaven
Jan 18 @ 2:00 pm

Welcome author, Kerry Claire, and illustrator, Motoko Lewis, to the Readings Gallery for their adventurous kids book, The Adventures of Wonky Willy!

This is the story of an adventurous squirrel, Wonky Willy, who lives in the forest. Although life in the wild isn’t easy, with his new friends, Isabella and her dog, Annie, he thrives. Then one evening, a dark shadow sweeps out of the trees toward him. Will Isabella be able to save him? Will Willy ever make it home again?

Kerry Claire was born in Vancouver, BC. Although she worked as a nurse practitioner for much of her life, animals have always been her passion. Wonky Willy is a tribute to a little injured squirrel she and her husband came to know and admire one summer. It is her first children’s book. She lives in Washington State with her husband and their collie, Annie.

Motoko Lewis was born in Japan and studied printmaking and drawing at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Studying art was one of her childhood wishes; another was to connect with animals. She fulfilled the latter through small animal massage and various canine training programs. Motoko currently resides in Blaine, WA with her husband and two dogs.

Salmon Stream Science Workshop with NSEA @ Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association Campus
May 15 @ 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Salmon Stream Science Workshop with NSEA @ Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association Campus

Do you know what salmon need for healthy stream habitat? Salmon need the “three C’s” – cold, clean, and clear water!

During this workshop, you will discover how to determine if water is healthy for salmon by meeting the bugs that tell the story of the stream – and serve as an important food source for salmon fry. Become a salmon scientist and learn how NSEA educators teach students to test the water quality of local creeks, then draw your own conclusions based on what we find.

Join NSEA’s Education Program Manager, Nathan Zabel, for this workshop on our campus at 3057 E Bakerview Rd, Bellingham, WA, on Thursday, May 15th from 3:30–4:30 PM. Stick around afterward for an exclusive look at NSEA’s outdoor classroom, open discussion, and hands-on activities!

This workshop is free and family-friendly! All ages are welcome. Registration is appreciated to let us know you’re coming, but it’s not mandatory to attend. Learn more at www.n-sea.org/upcoming-events.
