The South Fork Nooksack River is a popular area for summer recreation that often sees its fair share of trash, so we are hosting a Litter Pickup in Acme, WA! Teams will pick up trash from the riverbanks and adjacent roadways before it has a chance to wash into the waterway. Space is limited, register today!

Mark your calendars for the Wander to Wander 1k on Saturday, June 7th, 2025! Learn more and Register at https://www.whatcomdrc.org/wander-to-wander

This Bellingham-based fun run benefits the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center and is hosted by Wander Brewing. Beginning with donuts at the WDRC office, participants will ‘wander’ (or sprint) along the route to Wander Brewing. At the finish, enjoy a pint of beer or root beer (included with all registrations), food trucks, and the fanfare of this exciting race!

Costumes are encouraged. All ages, abilities, as well as pets are welcome. We hope you will join in the fun and support the WDRC! This event is ADA accessible and volunteers will be available to support racers who need assistance.

The Goat American Novel is an all-ages barnyard gothic podcast set in the farmlands of Whatcom County. It follows a goat herd’s misadventures with the supernatural and a super-bad neighbor. Think Babe the Pig meets Bunnicula the Vampire Rabbit, but it’s all goats.

With the throwback feel of an old-time radio play, this live podcast show will feature live music, original goat sound effects, and performances from the sheep and alpaca supporting cast.

Hilde Festerling is a writer/storyteller for the alternative family audience. Her mission is to speak to the childhood awakenings in every listener, but she is best known for telling stories about naughty cats at schools and festivals in the PNW. Welcome back long-time friend and poet-in-residence at the Chuckanut Radio Hour Kevin Murphy to the Readings Gallery for his new poetry collection, The Last Normal Year!

Just in time for the end of history, The Last Normal Year features new, selected, and previously undetected compositions by celebrated Bellingham poet Kevin Murphy. With nods to the Beats, the bards, the surrealists, and the blues, Murphy’s approach is exuberant, comic, and slightly mad.

Kevin Murphy has been writing poetry for over 45 years, often accompanying himself on guitar or percussion. He is poet-in-residence at the Chuckanut Radio Hour, and is a winner of the Bellingham Mayor Arts Award. He has recorded two CDs of his work, Between Onions and Oxygen, and the Bird of Pure Midnight. His new poetry collection is The Last Normal Year (2025).

Performances by both the NSYS Symphony orchestra with advanced young musicians and the Philharmonia, featuring our newer members.
North Sound Youth Symphony is dedicated to fostering musical excellence in young musicians from our community. Seeing their peers on stage can be the spark that lights a lifelong passion. Online trivia through Zoom, every Tuesday night, featuring a mix of gallery and breakout rooms allowing you to socialize while you play several rounds of trivia including a weekly suggested category.

Teams or individuals can play. To participate in scoring, teams designate a scribe who submits answers using google forms. Players of all ages welcome!

Youth Outrigger Paddling Lessons @ Bellingham Bay Outrigger Paddlers

One of the core goals of Bellingham Bay Outrigger Paddlers (BBOP) is to honor and respect Polynesian cultural traditions through the promotion of both competitive and recreational outrigger canoe paddling for youth, families, and the community. Keiki (kids) ages 8-14 will enjoy games on and off the water and learn to paddle as a team in a 6-person outrigger canoe! Sign up for one or more of the 4 sessions throughout the summer, which includes opportunities to race with your BBOP team! We provide paddles and PFDs for free. All youth must register before getting into a canoe.

What to Wear

All youth are required to wear a PFD. We will have PFDs and paddles available, but bring a PFD and/or paddle if you have one. 

  • Dress in layers, avoid cotton. Rain gear help to keep the body warm and insulated. Tights worn for other sport work well.

  • Wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet- neoprene booties with wool socks will help keep the feet warm.

  • Bring a change of clothes and a towel.

Then join the All-Voices Pop-Up Chorus put on by the Mount Baker Toppers. Learn to sing 4-part acapella harmony from award-winning teachers for six weeks on Tuesdays and then perform A Night of Acapella on June 21st at the Fairhaven Green. It’s free and it’s fun. Ages 12-99 welcome!
