Immigrant Resources and Immediate Support (IRIS), a local non-profit organization, announces its third annual Mother’s Day fundraiser to provide groceries and support to Skagit Valley and Whatcom families in need.

For a $35 donation, a hand basket of groceries will be purchased, $150 buys a half cart of food and $300 buys a full cart to last a family for a week. The deadline for donations is May 14, 2023.

IRIS serves families that do not have enough to eat. They utilize local food banks but regularly lack culturally appropriate foods, fresh produce, hygiene items and laundry detergent. Additionally, most are not eligible for food stamps or government assistance. These families work incredibly hard to juggle work and provide basic necessities for their loved ones.

“We have identified 35 immigrant families with urgent needs. Eleven of them have newborn babies. Our goal is to assist each of these families with a shopping cart full of basic groceries. We can combine donations to insure that each family gets their needs met,” says Norma Suárez Govea, Executive Director of IRIS.

To make a gift, please go to irisnw.org or send a check to 1050 Larrabee Avenue, Suite 104, #498, Bellingham, WA 98225.

Leadership Skagit and Children’s Museum of Skagit County are partnering with IRIS to host a Mother’s Day celebration to distribute food and gift baskets, and will offer snacks, playtime, a children’s book giveaway, folkloric dancing and information on community resources.
