This year you have something different to do on New Year’s Eve! For the first time in its 120 year history, Bellingham and Whatcom County Firefighters are throwing their Community Ball on New Year’s Eve! This charity event raises money for the Local 106 Benevolence Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit which keeps its charitable donations local! This year’s proceeds will be focused towards two charities that are dear to our hearts – The Burned Children’s Recovery Foundation and the Jason Karwhite Memorial Scholarship.

With 120 years of history behind the Community Ball, changing the date to New Year’s Eve was not made lightly.  Traditionally, the Community Ball has been thrown on or around St. Patrick’s Day, but attendance has waned in recent years- mostly attended by firefighters and their dates. We made this change to refocus the Ball on the Bellingham community and give our city the signature NYE party it deserves!

You can’t just throw around phrases like “Bellingham’s Signature New Years Eve Event” lightly, so we pulled out all the stops! Our Gatsby-themed  21+ event takes place at the Holiday Inn and Suites, and please feel free to go all out in your fanciest attire! The Evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a red carpet entrance, Live and Silent Auctions, continues with Live music from Baby Cakes, and finishes with one of Seattle’s most renowned DJ services, Otto-Matic Mobile DJ, filling the dance floor well past midnight. When the Ball drops there will be a complimentary champagne toast, and Bellingham Firefighters Pipes and Drums band will lead the crowd with a sing-along of Auld Lang Syne. If you think NYE should be a special night, then you are not going to want to miss this!

The only way to pull off such an extravagant event is with the help of our generous Community Sponsors! Sponsors like Jen Freeman and Leah Crews from Windermere Real Estate, Dewey Griffin Subaru, Holiday Inn and Suites, Yeager’s, Northwest Honda, WECU, Judd and Black Appliances, Care Medical, and IAFF Local 106 were all major contributors to the Community Ball. In addition to our main sponsors, our live Band Baby Cakes and Otto-Matic DJ’s both generously lowered their fees, and more than 30 local businesses have donated some incredible gift packages that we’ll have up for auction!

Tickets are $50 if purchased online or $60 at the door and all profits go to charity! You can purchase tickets online and even reserve a table at BfdBall.firecat53.com, or if you have Facebook, you can find tickets through our Bellingham Firefighter’s Community Ball page. If you’re worried about driving home afterward, please contact the Holiday Inn and Suites, who has generously set aside the entire second floor with discounted rates for all in attendance!

It’s not often enough that we get to dress up and celebrate, and few better times than ringing in the New Year! This December 31st, come join your Bellingham and Whatcom Firefighters at the 120th Annual Community Ball, and make this New Year’s Eve one to remember!
