Sustainable Connections announces its impressive lineup of speakers for their annual Sustainable Design and Development Conference, Northwest Washington’s premier educational conference taking place Thursday November 6, 2014 at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal.
The conference draws inspiration from the Living Building Challenge, a building certification program, advocacy tool and philosophy that defines the most advanced measure of sustainability in any building project. With a concentration on health and happiness, the conference will be an impressive gathering of the area’s most creative thought leaders in green building and the contractors, architects, designers, builders, planners and engineers who are best equipped to create healthy efficient buildings and communities.
Keynote speaker, Eric Corey Freed, Vice President of the International Living Future Institute, is an internationally acclaimed sustainability leader, author of 11 books, professor, and recipient of many awards such as the “Top 10 Most Influential Green Architects” and “Best Green Architect.”
“The way buildings and communities are designed has a profound impact on our physical, mental, social, environmental and economic well-being. We are so privileged to learn from the most dynamic leaders in the Northwest who can make real change in our communities,” said Rose Lathrop, Green Building & Smart Growth Manager for Sustainable Connections.
Registration for the conference is available online now and includes a locally sourced lunch, workshops, networking, and a post conference reception hosted by the Northwest Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
An optional deep green residential tour of what is being touted as the “greenest” home in Whatcom County is also scheduled for Saturday November 8. Designed by [bundle] Design, this case study project uses strategies to achieve net-zero energy and net-zero water as well as sources local, non-toxic materials. The tour is open to the general public (suggested donation of $5) and offers a hands-on learning experience of an innovative home offering ideas and solutions for deep green construction.
