The annual “Art Walk” comes home when the Sunnyland neighborhood transforms itself into backyard “galleries” displaying a plethora of artistic creativity. The outdoor gallery concept has roots in Sweden, where artists frequently hold outdoor art openings/dinner gatherings during the summer months. Several Sunnyland neighbors came up with the idea of opening their own backyard galleries to each other and the community at large as a way of sharing their talents and to get to know each other better.
Anyone who lives in Sunnyland can become an art curator by creating a backyard gallery featuring their own art and/or that of their friends, family, or neighbors (who may or may not live in Sunnyland themselves). Any form of art is encouraged and the only limit is one’s imagination. 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, sculpture, ceramics, music, performance, children’s art, metal work, recycled object art, garden art, lights and lanterns – you name it.
To host your own backyard gallery simply send the registration form here and registration fee to: The Stomp, c/o Alice Clark, 2804 Ellis Street, Bellingham, WA 98225 by Monday, June 16th to be included in Sunnyland Backyard Art Stomp Map. These will be distributed throughout the community by late June. If you are a gallery with items to sell the fee is $20, if you are a gallery only with nothing for sale the fee is $10. This helps us offset the cost of printing and advertising for the event.
