May is Osteoporosis Awareness month. Osteoporosis is responsible for an estimated two million broken bones per year, yet nearly 80 percent of older Americans who suffer bone breaks are not tested or treated for osteoporosis. Eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly can help slow or stop the loss of bone mass and help prevent fractures. Oregon State University’s research based Better Bones & Balance program can help seniors to decrease their fall risk and slow age-related bone loss with 5 specific exercises. Tammy Bennett, with the YMCA is offering a one-time class on Tuesday, May 30th at 1:30pm where participants learn the exercises and are given materials to support performing them correctly at home. The class is 1.5 hours and will be $12.00/person. Call (360) 354-2921 or email info@lyndencommunitycenter.org for more information or to register. The Lynden Community/Senior Center is at 401 Grover St.
