Mars Curiosity Rover scientist and Western Washington University professor Melissa Rice — followed by a high-tech laser show — will provide “An Evening of Light” free to the public. Rice, one of 400 scientists worldwide who help pilot the NASA mission, will give a first-hand report about what the Rover mission is finding on the Red Planet. The event is part of the university’s annual Compass 2 Campus outreach day, and is being sponsored by Bellingham-based SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, in observance of the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies. Call for free tickets in advance.
