Face it, no one WANTS to think about it. The fact is, what NWEP teaches is corroborated as vital by all emergency response and support agencies: FEMA, American Red Cross, CDC, WHO, firefighters, Search and Rescue, Whatcom County CERT (as an extension of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office), Whatcom Unified Emergency Management, WA State Department of Emergency Management and so on.
The early June 2016 Cascadia Rising multi-agency simulation of an M9 earthquake and subsequent tsunami, clearly underlines in the after-action report how unprepared emergency responders and the community are.
Emergency preparedness is logical, wise and fact-supported.
NorthWest Emergency Preparedness (NWEP) is a non-profit educational resource for free emergency preparedness education, information and advanced training referrals for Whatcom County and neighboring communities. We meet in person locally, as well as on our Facebook page for public support, discussion and downloadable information. (Find us on Facebook at the “NW Emergency Preparedness” public group.)
At the first annual NWEP Emergency Preparedness Expo, come and learn about emergency preparedness skills, getting the family involved, reducing residential hazards, making emergency supply kits, area hazards like earthquakes, tsunami, power outages, active volcanoes (of which there are five in our state!), emergency radio communication, self-sustainability skills and much more!
