Much of class is seated work with a portion towards the end geared towards standing. Students are invited and expected to adjust as needed…and everyone is encouraged to have a good time!

Sign up for one or multiple outings in October to forage for edible and medicinal mushrooms and learn about mushroom ecology and how to find target fungi.
There are 3 dates to choose from. Each course is from 12:00 to 4:30pm and take place in different locations.
To sign up for multiple dates you will need to purchase them individually in separate transactions:
Saturday October 5th
Sunday October 13th
Saturday October 26th
Locations will be in public forested areas around Whatcom County where foraging is legal without a permit. Precise details remain TBD as they are contingent on the fungi, but these trips will be no more than 1 hour outside of Bellingham. I will scout weekly to find the best locations and send you an email with location information 2-4 days before your event(s).
What to bring:
Dress for the weather
Snacks and water
Notepad and pen (optional)
Foraging basket
Hand lens (optional; I have some for sale (5/ea))
Registered individuals will receive location details, driving directions, weather forecast details and other info in an event-reminder email 2-4 days prior to the event. Please check your spam folder if you do not receive this email. Reach out if you do not find an email. There have been frequent issues with Gmail not delivering to Hotmail, Live, and MSN email addresses.
Email me with concerns or to get on a waitlist: nwnatura@gmail.com
Space is limited to 10 participants per course.

Take a hike (or several!) with a naturalist and trained botanist to learn the names of PNW flora, fungi, fauna in various locations in Whatcom and Skagit County on Public Land and Private land.
NWN’s Naturalist Hiking Classes will focus on experiencing nature through slowing down to notice small details and discussing the “bigger picture”. Each class is an opportunity to exercise, get some fresh air, and nourish our minds. You can treat these classes as a mental health day! Come take a break and experience the outdoors with Northwest Natura.
This is the perfect class for hikers of any skill level, including beginners.
These field trips will be a wonderful gift to give yourself or a loved one this fall and winter. Each class will uplift, inspire thoughts about nature and our place within it. You will feel a sense of rejuvenation from these outings as you get outside and learn more about your home here in the coastal northwest.
Please register via the website.
