September meeting topic: Pure Peonies with Angela Kenworthy.

The September 4, 2024, meeting of the Birchwood Garden Club will be held in the Rotunda Room of the Old City Hall Museum, 121 Prospect St., Bellingham, WA 98225. Doors open at 6:30 PM.

The speaker for the evening will be Angela Kenworthy from Pure Peonies (a family business) in Everson, WA. https://purepeonies.com. They grow over 135 varieties of peonies and they have a robust plant and bouquet business that supplies numerous wholesale partners, florists, and event planners across the U.S. and Canada.

Both tree and herbaceous peonies bring armfuls of spectacular flowers to our gardens in May and June. No garden is complete without a few of these sumptuous bloomers. Tree peonies are inspiring specimen or accent plants. Herbaceous peonies play nicely in perennial borders or mixed beds and provide a color blast to spring.

Now for the great part… Fall is the perfect time to plant these wonderful garden additions. Angela will be providing an overview of the varieties as well as the care requirements for these terrific plants.

The Birchwood Garden Club is accepting applications from non-profit organizations in Whatcom and Skagit counties to help support projects that are related to horticulture, agriculture or related fields. Applications for up to $500 can be found at birchwoodgardenclub.org and will be accepted until December 31 and awarded in February.

Birchwood Garden Club membership is open to anyone in Whatcom or Skagit Counties. You are invited to join us at our monthly meetings where we will have membership brochures to join.
