Bellingham International Airport (BLI) will conduct live-fire trainings in support of its Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) operations the week of April 8-12.
Members of the public should not be alarmed if they see smoke, firefighting apparatus, and unusual activity in the vicinity of the airport. The airport is once again partnering with Bellingham Fire Department (BFD) to conduct multiple scenario-based exercises that will fulfill the airport’s annual Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification requirements and strengthen the mutual aid partnership between BLI and BFD.
The trainings will utilize a specialized aircraft fuselage designed specifically for aircraft rescue and firefighting drills. All trainings will be staged on airport property and will take place primarily during daytime hours. Commercial flights will not be affected by the training, and the airport will remain open and fully operational.
