The workshop will help writers turn memories into memoir; the goal for each writer is 1,666 words each day. At the end of September, participants will have 50,000 words – a book.

The Sept. 3 workshop, “Intro to Writing Your Memoir: Making the Narrative Journey,” will help writers shape their understanding of the memoir style. The class is taught by novelist Laura Kalpakian, who has taught memoir writing for more than 15 years at universities and conferences. Award-winning writer and editor Laurel Leigh leads the second workshop on Sept. 10, “Managing Relationships with Family while Writing about Them.” Participants will learn “Generating Scenes to Complete the Literary Arc of Your Memoir” in novelist Nancy Canyon’s Sept. 17 workshop. Teacher, psychotherapist and author Cami Ostman closes out the series on Sept. 24 with “Tame Your Inner Critic.” Ostman, author of Second Wind: One Woman’s Quest to Run Seven Marathons on Seven Continents, will teach students how to move past self-doubt and show why writing your memoir is important.
