The Koma Kulshan Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society holds meetings on the third Wednesday of every month from September through May. Meetings begin at 7 pm and will continue to be held virtually on Zoom until further notice.
Along with mountains, rivers, sagebrush, and plentiful wildlife, Central Washington hosts three plants (Eriogonum codium, Sidalcea oregana var. calva, and Hackelia venusta) listed under the Endangered Species Act. These endemic plants occur only in Central Washington and some occupy fewer than a couple hundred acres. Our guest speaker, the Washington State Recovery Coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will present on the status of those species. Her talk will explore some of the threats facing each species and how the Service and its partners have begun to address them. She will also cover some new and exciting research that may help guide future recovery.
