The Wisdom of the Grandmothers

The Women’s Voices Project initially grew out of a desire to find out more about the indigenous prophesy that states there won’t be peace on earth until the voices of the grandmothers are heard. Author and film-maker Susan Stark Christianson heard about the teaching from a Tlingit elder in Alaska who adopted her and wanted to understand what grandmothers have to offer for peace. She chronicled stories of grandmothers from Siberia to Patagonia in her book, Women’s Voices: The Wisdom of the Grandmothers and a documentary film The Wisdom of the Grandmothers set to air on Alaska Public Television on Mother’s Day and on national PBS stations later in 2015.
