On Saturday, November 17, representatives from Meals on Wheels and More and Dewey Griffin Subaru will be at the Barkley, Fairhaven, Ferndale, Meridian and Sehome Haggen Northwest Fresh Stores encouraging customers to “Stuff the Trunk” of a new Subaru with nutritious shelf-stable emergency food supplies. The food will be delivered to the more than 250 homebound senior Meals on Wheels participants in early December. “Stuff the Trunk” is part of Subaru’s national Share the Love Event. From November 15, 2018, through January 2, 2019, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new vehicle sold or leased to the customer’s choice of participating charities.
Suggested food donations include:
– Canned tuna, chicken, turkey, roast beef
– Canned chili, or stew
– Peanut Butter
– Canned Fruit
– Hot Cereal
– Hot Cocoa
– Soup
– Granola/ breakfast bars
Donations can also be dropped off at the Bellingham Senior Activity Center or at Dewey Griffin Subaru. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
Meals on Wheels and More delivers nutritious meals to homebound adults age 60 and over and serves senior community lunches at nine locations throughout Whatcom County. All meals are provided on a donation only basis. Meals on Wheels and More is a program of the Whatcom Council on Aging, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
