Film Is Truth will celebrate 19 years serving Whatcom County on Saturday, October 1 with its annual anniversary party. From 10am-10pm, patrons of Film Is Truth are invited to visit the store and receive one free rental (regular rental periods and late charges will still apply), enjoy co-founder Emily Marston’s legendary fresh-baked cookies, and learn more about Film Is Truth’s recent transition to non-profit status, its future programming and events, and its mission to keep a large and diverse collection of films on DVD, Blu-Ray, and VHS accessible to the community.
Other activities throughout the day will include glitter tattoos by “professional party starter” Arieekah Laudert, a local food truck, and a raffle featuring prizes from The Comics Place, Mallard Ice Cream, Aslan Brewery, Third Planet, Pepper Sisters, La Fiamma, and many other Bellingham businesses. Raffle tickets are $1.00 each, and proceeds will benefit Film Is Truth’s education and outreach efforts. Beginning at 5pm, musician and filmmaker Clyde Peterson (of Your Heart Breaks) and Port Townsend band Solvents will perform outside the entrance to Film Is Truth. Admission is free.
Film Is Truth began as an independent video rental store dedicated to stocking a carefully-curated collection of notable films. In the fall of 2014, Film Is Truth began the process of transitioning to a non-profit organization, in order to both continue and expand its programming and offerings.
