Adapted from a novel by Naruse Mikio’s favorite author, Hayashi Fumiko, Floating Clouds tells the story of a romance between Yukiko (Takamine Hideko) and the married Kengo (played by Mori Masayuki) that gets its start during World War II in Southeast Asia and continues through the deprivations of postwar Japan.
