Birchwood Garden Club’s December 6th, 2023 Meeting
December topic: “Sustainability in the Ornamental Garden in the Era of Rapid Climate Change”
The December 6th meeting of the Birchwood Garden Club will be held in the Rotunda Room of the Old City Hall Museum, 121 Prospect Street, Bellingham, WA 98225. Doors open at 6:30 P.M. and our meeting starts at 7:00 P.M.
Our speaker will be Lisa Bottcher-Law, who will give a presentation on, “Sustainability in the Ornamental Garden in the Era of Rapid Climate Change.”
Gardeners have always been attuned to weather. Over time, we also become attuned to a bigger picture—the climate in our own locales—and with good reason. Gardening success depends on knowing the attributes of our area. Recently, however, we seem to have so much unusual weather and seasonal variability that it is growing much harder to make the best choices for garden success.
Lisa Bottcher-Law holds a B.S. in Zoology and did her graduate work in Landscape Architecture in order to design exhibits in Zoos. During her 15 years at the Denver Zoo and Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo she developed natural habitats for animals as well as Curricula for educating the public. Throughout her career, she has also actively practiced her lifelong love of gardening. Please join us as we discuss opportunities to make the kinds of changes necessary to keep our ornamental gardens thriving.
