Families can celebrate Mother’s Day a day early with a special Lake Whatcom Railway trip on authentic Pullman Co. passenger cars Saturday, May 7.
The train will depart from Wickersham Station, just off State Route 9 and four miles south of Acme, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Passengers will ride on a Pullman car built between 1910 and 1912 and formerly used by the Northern Pacific Railway.
After a three-mile ride to a meadow, the train will stop for a break before returning on the train to Wickersham to conclude the 90-minute trip.
Tickets are available only through advance purchase at www.LakeWhatcomRailway.com. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for children ages 2-17; mothers ride for the price of a child when accompanied by a full-fare passenger. Babies and toddlers younger than 2 years old ride for free. Passengers are asked to arrive 45 minutes before departure, giving them time to check in and view a 100-year-old steam engine locomotive.
The Lake Whatcom Railway is operated by Frank Culp and other volunteers who keep the train operating so people can relive a time from America’s past. Wickersham Station is less than 30 miles east of Bellingham via SR 542 and SR 9 and just 20 miles north of Mount Vernon via SR 20 and SR 9.
