Kuntz and Company artists Alona Christman, Vanessa Daines, Pam Kuntz and Kate Stevenson along with community members Hazel, Emily, Naquoia, Shalini, Kathy, Ann, Kim, Angela, Evelyn, and Skyla bring “WAITING” to the Firehouse Arts and Events Center, October 3-5 @ 7:30 and October 5-6 @ 5:00.
“WAITING” is a new dance/theatre piece created by Kuntz and Company artists Alona Christman, Vanessa Daines, Pam Kuntz and Kate Stevenson, along with 10 community members ages 12-75, that explores that very idea for each of these women. What they all have in common is that waiting certainly isn’t about doing nothing. “WAITING” investigates the unknown or the inevitable, the exciting or the devastating, or the mundane or the thrill of waiting. The performers dive into the obstacles, the patience, the relationships, or the self-generated tensions surrounding all that is waiting. What has emerged is a wildly imaginative landscape filled with humor, sadness, nature, flying, water fountains, and wrestling…all inside a dance piece.
Tickets $15 students/seniors, $20 general at kuntzandco.org. Appropriate for all ages.October 3-5 @ 7:30 and October 5-6 @ 5:00.

Shannon Nichol: Whatcom County Influences on How We See Landscape @ Zoom
Oct 16 @ 7:00 pm

Shannon Nichol has been practicing landscape architecture for 25 years in the Seattle-based firm she co-founded, GGN. While her design work in parks, gardens, and planning has ranged around the world, Shannon brings a localized approach strongly influenced by growing up on a Sumas Mountain logging road and watching the interactions between people, plants, and animals in Whatcom County’s recently-colonized landscape.

Shannon has leveraged GGN’s platform in the Pacific Northwest to facilitate more availability and use of native plants in our region’s built environment and, most recently, to foster the desire for native plants in residential gardeners. Shannon will cite several project examples in this talk, including Chicago’s Lurie Garden, the Burke Museum’s Camas meadow, and several 100% native residential gardens in the Seattle area. She will also discuss GGN’s Meadowshop Initiative, which aims to bring aesthetically driven native gardens into more affordable and replicable residential contexts.

This is a virtual meeting! Zoom registration will be availabe through the primary WNPS website soon (www.wnps.org).
