Artists can see what others do not see. Artists transmit this vision through their work so others also can perceive their own world, their own lives, or even themselves.

Creativity is about making connections. David Syre makes connections through his spiritual vision and the universality of art.

In the Artist’s recent works collected here, we see the vitality and diversity of David Syre´s work and his skillful use of a variety of treatments to convey a wide range of emotional expressions.

The circle has been a central feature in much of David’s work. Here, in Weave, the successful use of a monochrome palette and an almost diluted paint evokes the fragility of something just emerging inside the circle. Conversely, in Nooksack River Sunrise, the simple and effective use of saturated color projects the strength and power of the sun.

Lost in Thought and I Stand Before Thee lead us toward Minimalism and to the Artist’s best minimalistic example in this collection — Harvest Light — an absolute Haiku. Nothing needs to be added. Nothing needs to be removed. The artwork speaks for itself, and the title says it all.

Syre continues experimenting with the gestural approach found in many of his earlier works. Stains and strong colors are spontaneously dibbled and splashed onto the canvas. Yet, nothing is arbitrary. Every streak and splotch has a purpose. In Universe 20 and Kyoto Calling these carefully positioned strokes become images suspended on the very center of the canvas.

This exhibition demonstrates the Artist’s continued ability to produce art of quality and resonance through the treatment of both image and technique.
