The process of prescribing medications has traditionally been through trial and error. Due to genetic diversity, no two people react the same way to medications. Finding the right medication(s) to manage and diagnosis often results in unnecessary side effects and takes time. More recently, psychiatrists have begun using “pharmacogenetic Testing” to more accurately prescribe medications, based on an individual’s genetic makeup.
Join NAMI Whatcom as we hear Dr. Levine explain the science of pharmacogenetic testing and how it is streamlining the process of finding the right medication for a mental health diagnosis.
