This course brings pre-history, documented history, and current events together to describe the multi-dimensional conflicts in four countries/regions of Africa.

We will explore the ancient history of Somalia, the unique culture of the country, and the ongoing conflict that has impacted the region and the world.

We will then look into the sparsely populated Central African Republic’s cultural and geographic dynamics, its history, and the current conflict that has emerged there.

Our third module will focus on Nigeria, its numerous cultures, its rise to prominence as Africa’s largest economy, and several selected conflicts there.

Our final session will build a narrative around the area of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, and Djibouti. The modules combine content delivery by the instructor, some external sources that have been curated for the class, and discussion.

The instructor has direct experiences in all four of the countries/regions addressed in the course. ALL is pleased that Ross Van Horn will deliver another course from Nairobi, Kenya!

Registration ends February 14, 2022
