What happens when two seasoned songwriters from different musical genres collide? Find out on February 28 at the Firehouse Events Center when Sher Vadinska and Margaret Wilder (Joined by Kim Carson as percussionist and background vocalist) converge to perform their sonic alchemy. With acoustic rhythms, blazing keys, vocal harmonies and lyrical ingenuity, these artists bring their years of compositional talent and original music to a performance where folk and pop-Americana meets funky blues and soulful pop-R&B. This musical mashup creates a unique expression of sound and style that will dazzle your senses and lift your spirit.
This upcoming concert is an opportunity for fans and newcomers to hear Vadinska and Wilder’s songs performed in a completely new way with a distinctive blend of sounds and style as each artist brings to the stage their own unique musical background.
Sher Vadinska brings to the stage over three decades of songwriting and recording. She has performed on some prominent stages over the years and opened for such artists as Brandi Carlile, Laura Love, Suzy Roach, Ferron and had one of her songs performed by Grammy Award winner Little Big Town. Her most recent release, Knee on the Ground (2016) flawlessly blends folk-rock, blues and pop-americana.
Margaret Wilder, heavily influenced by blues and jazz early on, fuses blues, rock and pop-R&B into the upcoming musical mashup. Wilder began as a singer, songwriter and recording artist early in her career. Her debut CD “Don’t Wanna Wait” (2006) along with her unforgettable live performances earned her a nomination for best new band and best keyboards by the Washington Blues Society. Wilder has performed at some of the best venues and festivals in the Northwest and shared the stage with such famed artists as Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, John Lee Hooker Jr, and Leroy Bell to name a few. Equipped with a powerhouse voice and sizzling keyboard riffs, Wilder’s strong R&B style evokes the classic stylings of Etta James along with the pop-R&B sounds of Annie Lennox as demonstrated in her newest self-titled CD release (2017).
Adding to this musical experience, Wilder and Vadinska will be joined by Kim Carson as percussionist and background vocalist. Carson rounds out the show with her own superior talent and background. She began playing drums at the age of 13 and continued to cultivate her love of music throughout college playing in popular bands on the east coast. Carson then found her way to Seattle where she is best known for her work as drummer and background vocalist for Swamp Mamma Johnson. She has shared the stage with such greats as Tom Petty, Maceo Parker, John Hiatt, Buddy Guy, Steve Miller, Galactic and Shamekia Copeland.
