Do something fun for Daylights Savings! Come out and enjoy an afternoon baking bread over a campfire in the woods with Northwest Natura!

The first portion of this course will focus on practicing how to light a fire without a lighter in damp conditions. You will be provided with a fixed blade knife to use for the day and a ferro rod that you can take home with you.

We will celebrate fire crafting successes in the second half of this course by baking bread over an open flame together.

This course is designed to be highly engaging with hands-on activities. Here’s what you can expect from this class:

Mini lectures on firelighting with a ferro rod, foraging for dry materials, breadmaking, fire safety, and “leave no trace” ethics.

Coaching and practicing firelighting with a ferro rod.

Independent foraging; locating materials for fire making.

Craft your own fire without a lighter using foraged materials.

Experience building a cooking tripod.

Experience preparing and cooking (and eating!) bread over an open flame.

The location of this course will take place on forested public land in Whatcom County. Registered Participants will receive driving directions and other information in an email sent 3-4 days prior to the event.
