OLDE FASHIONED CHRISTMAS IN FERNDALE
DECEMBER 6,7,8, 2019

In amongst the many majestic cedar trees of Pioneer Village at Pioneer Park, the log cabins are aglow with holiday spirit. Thanks to the new board stamped concrete sidewalks, you don’t even get your feet wet as you see costumed volunteers open the cabin doors to greet you and feel the holiday cheer spill into the winter air. “Christmas in the Woods” is the overall theme this year and each cabin will be decorated accordingly. Volunteers of the Ferndale Heritage Society host the 27th annual Olde Fashioned Christmas celebration as a gift to the public, Dec. 6, 7, and 8, 2019.
“Each year visitors come out to share in this tradition,” explains event organizer Linda Harkleroad. “It’s truly a step back in time as we help you begin your holiday season.”
Pioneer Village is home to 15 historic log cabins including the one-room Congregational Church built in 1876, where carolers sing, and the wooden pews invite reflection. Children visit the one-room schoolhouse to write a personalized letter to Santa, then deliver it to the one-room post office for mailing to the North Pole. Old-fashioned printing is a treat at the 1878 Lopas House, while the 1873 Jenni House hosts square dancing, crafts and the delicious smells of traditional Christmas baking.
Shoppers of all ages find inexpensive trinkets for their loved ones at the Parker House cabin, which is now the general store and Pharmacy. The stately Shields House next door offers more warm treats and a special guest in a red suit (parents bring your cameras).
Holiday displays, craft-making, games and music continue at the Veteran’s Museum, Foster House, Granary and Larsen cabins. Many local entertainers and musicians volunteer their talents for your enjoyment. Quiet visits with draft horses in the Barr Barn and festive refreshments in the Tillicum House complete the experience, which may begin or end with horse-drawn wagon rides through the streets of Ferndale.
Olde Fashioned Christmas is open Fri., Dec. 6 from 5 to 9 p.m., Sat., Dec. 7 from 1 to 9 p.m., and Sun., Dec. 8 from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Pioneer Park is located at 2004 Cherry Street in Ferndale. For more information, please call (360) 384-6461 or visit www.ferndaleheritagesociety.com.
