Kurosawa’s affinity for Shakespeare is well known (as those who have seen the Lear-based Ran know). But well before that film, Kurosawa took on Macbeth with 1957’s Throne of Blood. In a film replete with great performances (and not to take anything away from Mifune Toshiro), Yamada Isuzu as Lady Asaji steals the show. The ending is breathtaking. Introduction by Stephen Carlton.
