Lt. Col. (Ret.) Jim McKinney, an Army veteran and Whatcom County resident, will talk Jan. 23 about his recent contract deployment to Afghanistan and the relevance of the war there to the United States and Whatcom County
McKinney will speak at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at Meridian High School, 194 W. Laurel Road, Bellingham. The free event, ending at 8:00 p.m., is sponsored by Common Threads Northwest and the 4th Corner.
McKinney recently returned from a contract assignment in Afghanistan. He coordinated intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance operations for U.S. Army Special Operations Forces and Allied “Train and Assist” partners.
McKinney will discuss several questions:
• The United States, NATO and the Afghanistan government making progress in the war?
• What are the challenges and future for Afghanistan?
• How does the war related to America?
• What does it mean to Whatcom County?
