Elder abuse is one of the most under reported crimes in this country. Although it sometimes takes the form of physical violence or abuse, it more often involves financial exploitation of vulnerable elderly people by family or trusted caregivers.

Many times, the victims are not able or willing to report the abuse to authorities because of embarrassment, dependency or family relations.

Anyone who knows elderly people with cognitive losses or very serious health problems, especially those living alone, should be aware of these crimes and be keeping an eye out for the safety of vulnerable friends and family.
