Cryptogams flourish in Whatcom County–you sweep them off your roof, plant them in shady spots where nothing else will grow, ceaselessly pull them out of your veggie patch, and enjoy them sautéed with garlic.
Join Fred Rhoades, mycological ecologist, to learn more about these ubiquitous, ancient and beautiful organisms. Cryptogams are living plant-like organisms that don’t flower and don’t produce seeds. Some are very plant-ish (ferns). Some might be called “lower plants” (mosses, algae and seaweeds). Some are fungi (mushrooms) and some are another thing altogether (lichens).
