Professional dance company Bellingham Repertory Dance presents: Decade, an evening of six of the strongest and most audience-loved pieces gathered from the full ten years of the company’s history. In celebration of ten years of growth, the April 9th show marks the Mount Baker Theatre debut for the seasoned dancers of BRD. The show will run for one night only in Bellingham, and will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Decade also boasts one new work for the company, from Seattle choreographer Mark Haim, which will be danced by current company members as well as nine alumni returning for this special engagement and ten year anniversary celebration. For one night only, Decade presents a special treat for Bellingham audiences to be a part of current trends in contemporary dance performed by local and national professionals, with alum dancers including Bellingham’s Pam Kuntz and Angela Kiser, Las Vegas’s Jackie-Lou Breakey, and Seattle’s Ella Mahler and Gabrielle Gainor, among others.

Selecting works that have most dazzled audiences over the company’s ten-year tenure in Bellingham, Decade is a diverse concert that will challenge and engage. Ryan Corriston’s Exodus (Virginia) is a frenetic whirlwind of bodies that physically and thematically launches from constraint to freedom. Marlo Martin’s Look At Me With Your Eyes Wide Shut (Seattle) ranges from playful partying to lifting and flying with a sound score of equal range. Jackie-Lou Breakey’s Breathing Required (Las Vegas) is at turns precise as clockwork and evocative of the funk and sass of voguing. Most anticipated, however, is Mark Haim’s Parade (Seattle) which will be danced by current and past company members together in an ensemble of twenty dancers who will fill the stage with movement either tongue-in-cheek or heavily poignant, it is left to the audience to decide.

Established in 2006 Bellingham Repertory Dance’s mission is to bring high-quality contemporary dance performances to our local community, provide professional-level performance opportunities to Whatcom County’s most accomplished dancers, and to support established and emerging choreographers. The dancers of Bellingham Repertory Dance are selected in a yearly competitive audition, and many of this season’s dancers have performed professionally across the country. Attend Decade and help develop a thriving artistic community in Bellingham.
