Candidates for the 2019 Bellingham mayoral election will address their plans for the downtown district at the organization’s Mayoral Forum, taking place June 19th at the Whatcom Museum Old City Hall. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the event, where each candidate will share their platforms and viewpoints on Downtown Bellingham.  All four mayoral candidates will be participating in the forum.

Over the past decade, downtown Bellingham has evolved and grown, bringing both new assets and challenges. The forum provides the opportunity for each candidate to share their plans to continue positive changes for the district and address challenges related to economic development, social issues and housing.

“Downtown Bellingham is currently experiencing incredible growth along with an upsurge in economic activity, and both come with challenges and opportunities,” Alice Clark, Executive Director of the Downtown Bellingham Partnership, said. “How our next mayor plans to address these will be critical to downtown’s future, so we felt it was important to create a platform for the candidates to speak directly to the downtown community.”

Members of the public are encouraged to submit questions for the candidates through the organization’s website, which will be randomly selected and asked as part of the forum.  The forum’s moderator, Chris Roselli, will also present candidates with a core set of questions related to downtown development, housing, homelessness and strengthening local businesses.

The forum is free and open to the public – doors open at 6:30pm. For more information on the event and to submit questions to be asked of the candidates, please visit www.downtownbellingham.com/mayoralforum.
