Bard on the Beach is back by popular demand, this time with Shakespeare’s comic masterpiece A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The story follows four desperate lovers and a troupe of stumbling actors through enchanted woods and into an alternate world where the natural and supernatural have merged and elves, goblins and talking trees guide the way.
We leave Bellingham at 8:30 a.m. by chartered bus. After crossing the border, our first stop at approximately 10:30 a.m. is at Granville Island, Vancouver, where you have time for lunch and a chance to explore the area on your own. At 12:30 p.m. we board the bus again for Bard on the Beach at Vanier Park. The venue opens at 1 p.m., the pre-performance “in a nutshell” talk is at 1:10 p.m. and the play begins at 2 p.m. Duration of the play is approximately 2 ½ hours with an intermission. We should be back in Bellingham around 6:30 p.m., but that time depends upon congestion at the border.
ArriveCAN requirement: Be sure to bring your passport as well as your vaccination card, as we are crossing the border in to Canada. At this writing you must also complete the ArriveCAN app on your phone or computer within 72 hours of the trip. For those who want help completing the ArriveCAN form, we will hold “Help” sessions for you in the cafe area of the cruise terminal on Friday, Sept. 9, from 9 – 10:30 a.m. and from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Moreover, a week prior to the trip we will email to all participants simple ArriveCAN directions so you can perhaps complete the form at home. In short, we want our group’s border crossings to be as smooth as possible going both ways.
