Author Talk: Shann Ray

As Evelynne Lowry, the daughter of a copper baron, comes of age in early 20th century Montana, the lives of horses dovetail with the lives of people and her own quest for womanhood is not only about America’s hidden desire for regeneration through violence but the ultimate cost of forgiveness and the demands of atonement. Shann Ray is the author of the debut novel “American Copper,” an Indie Next Pick that has garnered acclaim from Esquire, Kirkus Reviews, McSweeney’s, Tin House and the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association.  His poetry and prose have been honored with the American Book Award, the High Plains Book Award, and the Bakeless Prize. Because of his wife and three daughters, he believes in love.
