Arctic and Resident Shorebirds of the Northwest - Field Trip @ Birch Bay State Park

Passage of shorebirds in the Salish Sea in autumn can be quite impressive given the diversity of this amazing order of adaptive radiation in feathered forms! Join us to learn their field ID and to better understand their lifestyle, and behavioral ecology in this two-part class. We will visit some local areas on a rising tide during our in-person field trip, to witness their specialized re-fueling stops and subsequent flights.

The field trip will meet and caravan from Birch Bay State Park, to Semiahmoo Spit, Drayton Harbor and Blaine shoreline with short, easy walks to view these beautiful birds in situ.

Registration ends September 2, 2021

Instructor: David Drummond, wildlife biologist-naturalist-educator, has loved shorebirds since 1983. He has conducted avian surveys in many areas of the world, taught classes in the South Pacific on board expedition ships, and on shore-side in the Northwest for many years.
