The Jansen Art Center is pleased to welcome 43 artists to the Jansen Art Center in the 2018 Summer Juried Exhibit. The exhibit will open with an artist reception on Thursday, June 7 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The Juried Exhibits are open to the public as a way to showcase the artistic talent in Whatcom County and the surrounding region. Each season, artists are invited to submit up to five pieces to be judged by a qualified jury made up of artists, curators and other figures in the arts community. The selected pieces are displayed in the Jansen Art Center for the community to enjoy.

This quarter, we received submissions from nearly 50 artists. The jury selected 74 pieces from 43 artists to be on display at the Jansen Art Center. The exhibit includes a wide assortment of artistic mediums including acrylic, oil and watercolor painting, assemblage, photography, textiles and pastels.

Artists included in the exhibit are:
Lisa Abbott, Jano Argue, Jeff Aspnes, Penny Bamford, Irene Barclay, Jeanne Burton, Gus Cabrera, Richard Cavnar, Eric Chauvin, Christina Davis, Lorraine Day, Ashley Dean, Jim Dixon, Jackson Faukner, Andy Friedlander, Salyna Gracie, Kindra Hayes, Kat Houaseman, Poonam Kandola, Johannes Kunst, Sonya Lang, Jack McBride, Michael McJilton, Deborah Miller, Marjie Miller, Shawna Morris, Greta Musland, Lisa Nakama, Lori Nelson Clonts, David Nichols, Kendra Norton, Joy Olney, James K. Papp, Rebecca Parker, Mary Perona, Steve Philbrick, Lyn Rackley, Susan Rittmueller, Deanna Robinson, Debi Sellinger, Robin Witte and Lynn Zimmerman.

The Opening Reception is free and open to the public. There will be live music in the Piano Lounge with jazz and contemporary musicians Darla Bradshaw Lobb and Walt Burkett. The J has five summer exhibits opening on June 7 including the 6th Annual Cup Show, for which guests have the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Award during the reception.

Artist Gene Jaress will be hosting a reception at the Inn at Lynden a block away from the J for his exhibit that opened in May. Visitors are encouraged to visit both locations in a mini-artwalk of sorts.
