Selkies, Sirens, and Shipwrecks – Set Sail with “Tales of the Sea”

September 13 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$15.00

Batten down the hatches and prepare for a voyage through laughter, loss, legends, and local history with Tales of the Sea, an all-original collection of ten one-act plays hitting the stage this September at the New Prospect Theatre.

From kraken confrontations to haunted shipwrecks, Tales of the Sea invites audiences to dive into a vibrant mix of comedy, horror, drama, puppets, and maritime mischief. Written and performed entirely by local playwrights and performers, this theatrical anthology offers something for every salty dog.

“Have you ever sailed with a pirate, been swallowed by a whale, or come face-to-face with a giant Kraken?” said showrunner Bryna Sweeney, “There’s something for everyone in Tales of the Sea.”

Pieces in the show include the story of a Port Hadlock fisherman chasing the one that got away, a selkie confronting her destiny, a sailor losing grip on reality after being marooned, a high-seas showdown between infamous pirates Jack Rackham, Anne Bonney, and Mary Reed, song and dance, and a one-of-a-kind puppet and light show.

Tales of the Sea is produced by the Unsubdued Theatre Collective and includes original pieces written by Riley Sweeney, Eva Nguyen, Danielle Phillips, Ky Weeks, Joan Prinz, Thatch Hobbes, Esme Dutcher, Crash Solo, Anica Johnston and Kyle Wong. Directors include Bryna Sweeney, Carol Makela, Hannah Cafarella, Margot Montgomery, and Alex Miller.

The Unsubdued Theatre Collective is a theatre group formed in 2022 with the goal of creating original theatre with an explicit focus on inclusivity. Currently, they are producing several shows, script-writing workshops, and other theatre-related activities to support the local
