Honey Salon is proud to present “Drip” by Bellingham-based oil and sculpture artist Kathryn Hackney. “Drip” is a departure into the abstract and spontaneous, fueled by high-energy music and unplanned expression. The vibrant and organic showcase builds on Hackney’s unique abstract form, while finding structured balance and understanding with each brush stroke. Ph.DJ, craft curated cocktails, and sweet treats will accompany the artist reception June 3 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

“Drip” offers viewers a glimpse into the Kathryn’s unique view on the world and colorful palate. To create her inspired collection, Hackney allowed drips of diluted oil paint to slide down her canvas. As each drip ducked and turned, Hackney encouraged the process with tender flips and shakes of the painting, creating an instant linear road map where she then filled in the blanks. At times struggling with contrast and depth, Hackney pushed the colors back into space with thin oily rubs of paint, then popped it with a fresh, bold drip over top; only calling each work done when the balance was just right. Each move inspired by the last, and every piece is named after the song obsessively blared on repeat during its creation.

Kathryn Hackney is a Bellingham-based oil painter, rock soap artisan, and Corgi lover. She received her BA in Painting and Art History from WWU in 2007 and fluctuates between a style based in realism and structure, and one dreamily fixed in abstract creativity. Hackney’s bold works of color and design have been shown locally and regionally, and most recently have been selected for galleries in the Los Angeles area.

Kathryn Hackney’s work can be found at galleries and venues throughout the Bellingham and Northwest region, and at her studio in Bellingham.
