The staff of Village Books and Paper Dreams would like to join our book industry colleagues around the country in congratulating San Francisco’s Books Inc., “Publishers Weekly’s” 2016 Bookstore of the Year.

“Being in the company of this great group of bookstores is humbling, and our congratulations go out to Books Inc. for being honored as the Bookstore of the Year,” said Chuck Robinson, Co-Owner of Village Books and Paper Dreams.

Since 1993, “Publishers Weekly” has presented the Bookstore of the Year Award annually to an outstanding independent bookstore. The award, which according to PW “highlight(s) singular achievements in in the bookselling industry,” is presented based on a variety of factors, including a store’s innovation within the business and community engagement.

Village Books and Paper Dreams was among five finalists for this year’s award. The other bookstores on the shortlist were Brazos Bookstore in Houston, Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn, and Phoenix Books in Essex Junction, Vermont.

This is the fourth time that Village Books and Paper Dreams has been a finalist for Bookstore of the Year. A bookstore can only win the award once.

The award will be presented in a ceremony at this year’s Book Expo America in Chicago.
