In 2001, the well-known scholar of international relations, John Mearsheimer, argued that war between the US and China would be difficult to avoid. Now in 2021, US-China relations are at their lowest point in decades.
This course explores the changing relationship between the US and China. We will begin with some historical context before turning to current flash points in the Sino-American relationship, including trade, Taiwan, and the South China Sea.

Instructor: Kristen Parris
Kristen Parris has an M.A. in East Asian Studies and a PhD. In Political Science from Indiana University. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at WWU where she teaches Chinese and East Asian Politics. Dr. Parris has visited China on many occasions for research, teaching, and pleasure.
