Revelers begin bringing in the New Year early by lighting road flares along the Birch Bay shoreline, and anyone can participate. This is a spectacular sight as the bay becomes a ring of fire, signifying hope for the coming year.
Free flares (donated by Mike Kent, Windemere) will be available at the Birch Bay Visitor’s Center at 7900 Birch Bay Drive starting at 5:30 p.m., on a first come, first serve basis and one flare per family. They run out quickly, so it is heartily recommended that bay goers purchase additional flares at:

Flares need to be “spikeless” and last 15-30 minutes. Flares are also usually available at marine and auto parts stores.
