The Northwest Cancer Climb is a recurring hiking event in Northwest Washington. Hikes are chosen based on accessibility, challenge and reward. Registered hikers receive a free t-shirt to commemorate the hike. Those that complete the hike will be entered into a prize drawing for one-night stay for two at the Fairhaven Village Inn, a pair of Seattle Mariners tickets and more!
The inaugural event will challenge participants to summit Oyster Dome, one of Bellingham’s most iconic trails. We will start at the Samish Overlook on Blanchard Mountain, about 15 minutes south of Bellingham. The trail is known for its challenging ascent leading to a panoramic view of Samish Bay atop a rocky promontory. The hike is 5 miles roundtrip with an elevation gain of 1,050 feet.
The goal of these hikes is to raise money toward making cancer care more accessible to disenfranchised groups. Proceeds go to the Binaytara Foundation, a 501(c)3 cancer health nonprofit based in Bellingham. The foundation is developing a national taskforce to address inequalities in cancer care, and is hosting the 2018 Summit on National and Global Cancer Health Disparities from April 28-29 in Seattle.
