Hilarie Couture has always been an artist but only recently has been able to concentrate on her art full time. She is self-taught but attends workshops from many artists she admires. She is represented by Attic Gallery, Camas, Washington, Steel Door Gallery and Splendorporium, Portland, Oregon, and RJ Gallery, Mc Minnville, Oregon. She has participated in various national group shows and solo shows and curated her own show locally, painting 55 portraits of women in her community who made contributions, then she wrote a book to document the project.

She has won numerous awards for her work and is a signature member of the Northwest Pastel Society, also a member of the International Pastel Society and the Pastel Society of America. Hilarie is an ambassador for Chartpak. She believes in giving back and sharing what she has learned to help other artists. She teaches biweekly in her studio and is a sought after instructor for various art guilds teaching specialized workshops. Hilarie offers portrait and other commissions at her studio/gallery in Vancouver, Washington or on location.

Intertwinings is a new body of work that not only incorporates painting with other mixed elements to create new textures but is more of an exploration of the materials and the process. The work combines meanings, contrasts, subject matter, thick and thin paint, hard and soft, paint with pastel, gold leaf and some unconventional materials … whatever she creates to cause the viewer to linger, wonder, enjoy, and be intertwined to the works.
